Demographic Differences
More workers who described their jobs as “technical” came from the South (15%) than from the West (7%).

More workers in the South, Midwest and West worked in buildings with 1-3 floors than workers in the Northeast.

Workers in the Northeast, South and West were more likely to have advanced degrees than those in the Midwest.

More workers in the Northeast (26%) than in the South (14%) or Midwest (15%) reported they made $100,000 or more annually.

Building Maintenance and Condition
Respondents in the Northeast (73%) were more likely than those in any other region to say that their buildings were acceptably maintained. Numbers for other regions included the South (57%), Midwest (59%) and West (55%).

A small percentage of respondents in the South, Midwest and West cited their buildings as “appalling” in terms of cleanliness. No respondents in the Northeast said their buildings were appalling in terms of cleanliness.

Respondents in the Northeast (86%) are more likely than those in the South (74%) to say the condition of their building greatly affects how they view their employers. Similarly, respondents in the South (26%) are more likely than those in the Northeast (14%) to say the condition of their building has no effect on how they view their employers.

Those in the Northeast (20%) were more likely than those in the West (7%) to use the term “stylish” to describe their buildings.

Security
96% of office workers in the Northeast said they felt safe in terms of their personal security. This was significantly more than those in the South (90%) and Midwest (83%). 89% of workers in the West felt safe in terms of their personal security.

Workers in the Northeast have more security measures in their buildings. They’re more likely than those in the Midwest to have and say they need card, code or key access to office space , as well as security guards on patrol. They’re also more likely than those in other regions to say they both have and need various other security measures.

Northeast workers are more likely than those in the West to say they have security cameras monitoring the premises.  However, workers in all regions except the Northeast say they need security cameras but don’t have them.

Workers in the West  (90%) are much more likely than those in the Northeast (80%) say they don’t need high-tech security identification measures, such as fingerprint, photo or other ID measures.

Those in the Midwest (67%) are more likely than those in the Northeast (51%)  to say they don’t need security guards in their buildings.

Recycling
Respondents in the Midwest (60%) are more likely than those in the South (47%) to have can or bottle recycling programs.

Respondents in the West (21%) are more likely to have carpool/public transportation incentives than those in the Midwest (9%).

Workers in the South (29%) are more likely than those in the Northeast (14) to say they have no recycling or environmental programs in place.

Building Improvements
Workers in the South (44%), Midwest (39%) and West (50%) are more likely than those in the Northeast to want décor-related improvements to their buildings.

Those in the South (33%) are more likely than those in the Northeast (21%) to say they’ve encountered outdated furniture or décor. Southerners are also more likely (26%) than those in the Northeast (13%) and West (11%) to say they encountered rodents or insects in their office building.

Those in the Northeast (27%) are more likely than those in any other region to want heating and air-conditioning-related improvements to their buildings.

Those in the South (19%) want maintenance-related improvements more often than those in the Midwest (10%).

Westerners (30%) are more likely than those in the Northeast (15%) and Midwest (16%) to say they have encountered theft or crime in their office buildings, and Westerners are also more likely (23%) than Midwesterners (13%) to say they’ve encountered inadequate or unsafe parking conditions.
More people in the West (24%) than in the Northeast (12%) say they have left or turned down a job because of the condition of the building or the lack of amenities offered.

Among those who have left of turned down a job because of the building or amenities, respondents in the South (24%), Midwest (32%) and West (22%) have all encountered rodents or insects at their buildings.

Concern Level
Workers in the South (10%) and West (11%) rate the highest in terms of being very concerned they will get sick or injured from unsafe or unhealthy conditions in their buildings. The Northeast (29%) has the highest percentage of workers who are somewhat concerned they will get sick or injured from their buildings.

Amenities
Workers in all regions (31%)  cite “conveniences” among the most desirable features of the buildings where they work.

Northeasterners rate on-site day care as a more desirable amenity than Westerners. (Mean of 2.6 vs. 2.1 on 5-point scale)

On average, Southerners found swimming pools more desirable than those in the Northeast and Midwest.

Holidays Off
Those in the Midwest (8%) and West (9%) are more likely than those in the South (2%) to say they want Halloween off.

Those in the Northeast (7%) more than those in the South (1%) and the West (1%) say they want Columbus Day off
